Ohio Rep. Max Miller is escalating his public feud with Sen. Bernie Moreno as explosive abuse allegations tied to a bitter family dispute continue to dominate headlines, and now he’s taking direct aim at his former father-in-law.
Miller, a Republican representing Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, forcefully denied allegations from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, who has accused him of physical abuse during their marriage. The claims, which surfaced in court filings and media reports earlier this week, have triggered a high-profile political and personal clash involving one of Ohio’s most powerful GOP families.
In a new statement posted Friday, Miller sharpened his response and directly accused Moreno of backing what he called a coordinated effort against him.
“It is unfortunate that @BernieMoreno continues to fund and enable his daughter’s malicious campaign to ruin my life despite his knowledge of her mental health issues,” Miller wrote.
“Bernie, this must be distracting from your job. These antics harm your own grandchild. Anytime you want to put a stop to this, you can.”
The comments mark a dramatic escalation, with Miller not only rejecting the allegations but also accusing Moreno of playing an active role behind the scenes.
Emily Moreno has alleged multiple instances of abuse, including claims that Miller assaulted her during their marriage and during a recent custody exchange involving their daughter. Reports have cited photographs and police involvement tied to at least one incident.
Miller has denied all allegations and has framed the accusations as part of a contentious custody battle. He has also released materials on social media that he says contradict his ex-wife’s claims.
The dispute is drawing heightened attention given Bernie Moreno’s growing national profile. The Ohio Republican won a U.S. Senate seat in 2024 with backing from President Donald Trump and has quickly become a prominent voice within the GOP.
The situation also revives past scrutiny surrounding Miller. Former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham previously accused him of abusive behavior during a prior relationship, allegations he denied.
With the 2026 midterms approaching, the controversy presents a potential political headache for Republicans in Ohio, where both Miller and Moreno are key figures.
Neither Moreno’s Senate office nor Miller’s congressional office has provided additional formal comment beyond the public statements as the dispute continues to unfold.
