Obama’s Office Denounces Trump’s Russia Collusion Claims as “Ridiculous”

The office of former President Barack Obama has issued a rare public rebuke of President Trump’s renewed allegations, labeling them both “bizarre” and “ridiculous.”

The statement addresses Trump’s recent claim—echoed by DNI Tulsi Gabbard—that Obama orchestrated false narratives about Russian interference in the 2016 election to undermine Trump.

“Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response. But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one,” said Patrick Rodenbush, Obama’s spokesperson.

He continued: “Nothing in the document issued last week undercuts the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes.”

This statement follows a July 22 release from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence clarifying that recent intelligence does not challenge the consensus: Russia attempted to influence the 2016 election—but no evidence shows they altered vote tallies.

President Biden and several Republican lawmakers had flagged concerns after Tulsi Gabbard, now DNI, declassified documents arguing Obama-era officials conspired to fabricate collusion allegations. Trump briefly reprised claims of “treason” and a “years-long coup.” Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s AI assistant Grok dismissed the allegations as politically motivated distractions, not grounded in credible evidence.

In response, Sen. Mark Warner (D‑VA)—Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee—called the accusations “not competent,” citing previous bipartisan investigations that confirmed Russian interference via hacking and disinformation. None, they noted, found evidence of collusion between Trump’s campaign and Moscow.
