REPORT: Elon Musk Planning To Spend Up To $200M In One State As Midterms Approach

Elon Musk is reportedly preparing to unleash a massive amount of political cash in Texas as Republicans fight to protect a crucial Senate seat ahead of the November midterms.

Four sources familiar with discussions surrounding Musk’s political operation told journalist Mark Halperin that the billionaire and his team are considering spending at least $50 million and potentially as much as $200 million in Texas alone before Election Day.

The reported spending would represent a dramatic escalation of Musk’s involvement in the 2026 midterms and could pour unprecedented resources into the state’s expensive political battlefield.

Much of the money is expected to focus on voter turnout and campaign infrastructure rather than traditional television advertising alone, according to the report.

The effort could include a major ground operation, television advertising and a sophisticated digital campaign aimed at reaching Texas voters.

Musk’s America PAC has already entered the Texas Senate race, spending nearly $250,000 to support Republican nominee Ken Paxton and oppose Democratic nominee James Talarico, according to federal campaign finance disclosures.

That was the largest portion of America PAC’s first roughly $800,000 in reported midterm spending across competitive races around the country.

The possibility of a far larger Musk investment has quickly drawn attention from Republican operatives concerned about holding the Texas Senate seat.

According to Halperin’s report, people involved in Texas politics who have been worried about the race view Musk’s potential spending as a major development.

The size of the operation could also have consequences well beyond Texas.

If outside money from Musk shoulders more of the financial burden in the state, national Republican groups could potentially redirect resources toward other battlegrounds, including competitive races in Michigan and elsewhere.

Texas has traditionally been a Republican stronghold in statewide elections, but the Senate contest between Paxton and James Talarico has attracted a surge of outside spending from both sides.

Musk’s involvement comes as several Republican-aligned groups have begun pouring additional money into the race.

President Donald Trump‘s MAGA Inc. super PAC recently announced a $10 million advertising campaign in Texas, split between promoting Ken Paxton and opposing Talarico.

Musk’s America PAC, meanwhile, has expanded its involvement in congressional contests around the country after remaining relatively quiet during much of the 2026 cycle.

The billionaire spent heavily during the 2024 presidential election and has already contributed tens of millions of dollars toward political organizations ahead of this year’s midterms.

Recent reports have said Musk authorized America PAC to spend more than $100 million nationally during the 2026 election cycle.

The new Texas discussions suggest the ultimate total could rise substantially higher if Musk decides to concentrate an extraordinary amount of money in the Lone Star State.

Any final spending would be expected to flow primarily through outside political groups such as America PAC, which can make independent expenditures but cannot legally coordinate its campaign strategy directly with candidates.

For now, the $200 million figure remains a reported upper-end possibility rather than money that has already been spent or formally disclosed.

But Musk’s first wave of expenditures is already underway, and Texas has emerged as one of the clearest priorities for his political operation as the midterm campaign enters its final stretch.
