Fox News host Greg Gutfeld and his colleagues were left mourning a familiar supporter after a Texas man they knew through years of online interactions was brutally stabbed to death in what authorities believe was a random attack.
Andrew James Wimsatt, 62, was killed in broad daylight on Labor Day while sitting near a park bench in Round Rock, Texas.
Benedict Ogbodiegwu Jr., 26, was arrested and charged with murder after surveillance footage allegedly captured him approaching Wimsatt from behind and repeatedly stabbing him in the neck, according to authorities.
The attack unfolded shortly before 11 a.m. near Double File Trail Elementary School.
Investigators said Wimsatt had been sitting on a bench when the suspect approached with a knife, wrapped an arm around him and began stabbing. Wimsatt attempted to fight back but was unable to escape, according to an arrest affidavit.
Authorities said the suspect continued attacking Wimsatt after he fell to the ground before leaving the area.
A woman discovered Wimsatt with severe neck injuries around 11:15 a.m. and called police.
Investigators later traced the suspect through surveillance footage that allegedly showed him at a nearby McDonald’s wearing different clothing and entering a red SUV registered to his family.
When detectives confronted Ogbodiegwu with a still image from the crime scene, he allegedly first acknowledged that the person pictured was him before denying he had been at the park, according to authorities.

He also allegedly claimed to have a twin but could not provide police with the twin’s name.
Detectives searching near his home later found a trash bag containing clothing resembling what the suspect wore in the surveillance video, along with a large knife. Authorities said the blade tested presumptively positive for blood.
Investigators believe Wimsatt and Ogbodiegwu did not know each other and have described the killing as a random attack.
Wimsatt had reportedly returned from visiting his mother at a nursing home shortly before he was killed.
But the tragedy also hit especially close to home for several personalities at Fox News.
Wimsatt was an accomplished civil engineer who earned three degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, but he was also known online for tirelessly clipping and sharing television appearances for media figures he admired.
Greg Gutfeld remembered Wimsatt as “supremely gentle, willing to do just about anything for another person.”
Fox News contributor George Timothy Murdoch, better known as Tyrus, described him as “always positive … with a monster laugh.”
Kat Timpf also remembered Wimsatt’s generosity.
“Andrew was a rare person: Genuinely kind just for the sake of it; it quite clearly never occurred to him to expect anything in return.”
Wimsatt reportedly created clips for Timpf’s online community and preserved old television appearances for several commentators without asking for payment.
His killing has renewed scrutiny of Ogbodiegwu’s previous encounters with the criminal justice system.
Ogbodiegwu had previously faced a felony theft charge in 2017, but that case was dismissed.
He was arrested again on a theft charge in January 2026. A court ordered a competency evaluation and he was later committed for restoration, according to the report. That case was ultimately dismissed.
He was arrested again in May on an accusation of giving police false identification. That charge was also dismissed.
Ogbodiegwu now faces a murder charge in Wimsatt’s death.
For Gutfeld and others who had come to know Wimsatt through his years of quiet support, the case was far more than another crime story. It was the sudden loss of a man they remembered for his kindness, generosity and constant willingness to help others.
