Actress Lucy Davis has revealed she is battling incurable Stage 4 breast cancer after quietly living with the disease for roughly a year and a half.
The British actress, best known for playing Dawn Tinsley in the original version of “The Office,” said the cancer has spread to her spine, right hip and ribs.
Davis said chemotherapy is no longer an option and described the diagnosis as “incurable.”
She also warned fans not to dismiss seemingly minor changes in their bodies after revealing that her first warning sign was so subtle she nearly ignored it.
“The initial lump that I felt, wasn’t a ‘lump’ as such; rather a kind of hard spot. Really tiny,” she wrote on Instagram. “I almost didn’t bother getting it checked. So I guess I’m saying don’t ignore anything – get everything checked out.”
Despite the grim prognosis, Davis said she is determined to make the most of the time she has left rather than allow the diagnosis to define her.
“As of now, I’m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can,” she explained. “I always like to find the teachable moments in anything negative that happens. And cancer has not disappointed in that regard; there’s a lot I have learned from it, and I’m grateful for that.”

Davis acknowledged that maintaining a positive outlook has not made the physical toll any easier.
“As some of you will know, the pain can really be something else,” Davis wrote. “Standing and walking for too long a time can be hard, and I need to use a wheelchair sometimes (so if you see me toddling around in one, feel free to give me a push!)”
Still, she said she has reached a place of peace about what may come next.
“I’m not scared of whatever comes next,” she said. “I’m at peace with it. I’ll see my Gracie sooner than expected, and for me, leaving my physical body just means going home. Any and all grieving is for my family; it’s far harder for them than for me.”
Davis also made clear that she has no intention of abandoning the work and causes that remain important to her.
“I’m still going to keep up all my work for animal rights,” Davis noted. “It’s so important to me. And I still would like to keep working. I’m perfectly able to do so, and acting is one of the biggest joys in my life.”
The 57-year-old actress began her career in the 1990s and appeared as Maria Lucas in the BBC’s acclaimed 1995 adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice.”
Her major breakthrough came several years later when she landed the role of receptionist Dawn Tinsley in Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s original British version of “The Office.”
The series ran from 2001 to 2003 and went on to become an international comedy phenomenon, eventually inspiring the hugely successful American adaptation.
Davis later appeared in a string of high-profile television and film projects, including “Shaun of the Dead,” “Wonder Woman,” “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” and “The Villains of Valley View.”
Now, after keeping her health battle largely private for 18 months, Davis is using the difficult diagnosis to urge others to pay attention to even the smallest warning signs while continuing to pursue the work and causes she loves.
