A Gulfstream G200 private jet crashed and exploded during an emergency landing at La Romana International Airport in the Dominican Republic on Sunday. The aircraft, bound for Austin, Texas, departed La Romana but soon reported mechanical problems and turned back. It belly-landed hard, slid off the runway into grass, and burst into a massive fireball. No passengers were aboard. Both pilots—U.S. citizens Erick Javier Diago and Rudy Ghazal—were killed. Emergency crews contained the blaze as thick black smoke rose over the airfield. Dominican authorities are investigating the cause, with the flight data recorder recovered. The incident highlights the risks of mechanical failures in private aviation, even on short return attempts. RIP to the crew.
