Vice President Vance Announces Heartwarming Personal News

Vice President JD Vance on Sunday announced that he and his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance, had welcomed their fourth child, a son named Alec Neel Vance.

In a joint statement posted on social media, the couple announced the arrival. “We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother,” the statement read.

“The incredible military doctors and staff members of Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit have been a blessing. Thankful for all they have done for our family.”

The couple had previously announced the pregnancy this past January. “We’re very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy. Usha and the baby are doing well, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him in late July,” they said at the time.

Sunday’s announcement marks a significant milestone, as Alec Neel Vance is the first child born to a sitting U.S. vice president in more than 150 years.

The Vance family already included three children: Ewan, age 9; Vivek, age 6; and Mirabel, age 4. The older siblings were described in the birth announcement as overjoyed to meet their new brother.

Usha previously discussed the couple’s decision to welcome a fourth child in a March interview with NBC News. “People have asked me if we’re going to have a fourth baby, and I’ve never closed the door on that. I grew up in a family of two, and I thought that was a great number. And then I had two kids, and I thought — I didn’t feel quite done, right? So I really wanted to have a third child,” she said.

We did feel very complete with a third child, in many ways. We have our daughter, who’s amazing, and it was great. And so I just wasn’t sure. But as time passed, I realized that I was feeling more and more excited about that possibility. And so if there was a chance, I should take it. I knew that I’d be happy if we only had three kids, and I knew that I’d be happy if we had four. And so here we are.”

JD Vance and Usha Vance met while students at Yale Law School. They married on June 14, 2014, in Kentucky in an interfaith ceremony. As of July 2026, the couple has been married for more than 12 years.
