White House Dinner Shooter Was Carrying A Disturbing Arsenal During Attack

The suspect accused of opening fire during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was reportedly armed with multiple weapons, according to law enforcement officials who briefed the public after the terrifying incident.

Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California. Officials said Allen allegedly charged through a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton while carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives before being stopped by Secret Service and law enforcement officers.

The annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner was underway Saturday night with President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, members of the Cabinet, journalists, and other high-profile guests in attendance when gunfire erupted near the ballroom entrance.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as guests scrambled for cover under tables while security rushed toward the threat. Several attendees initially thought the sounds were plates crashing before realizing shots had been fired.

One federal officer was reportedly struck in a bullet-resistant vest during the confrontation. Officials said the vest likely prevented serious injury, and the officer is expected to recover.

Reports also indicated the suspect may have assembled a “long weapon” in an unsecured area near the entrance before moving toward the event. A volunteer working nearby told reporters the man appeared to remove parts from a bag and put the weapon together moments before the attack.

The suspect was quickly subdued and taken into custody at the scene. Authorities later transported him to a nearby hospital for evaluation before formal charges were announced.

Federal prosecutors said Allen is expected to face serious charges, including firearm-related offenses and assault on a federal officer. Investigators are still working to determine a motive and whether he specifically targeted the event or any individuals attending.

President Trump was safely evacuated from the ballroom by Secret Service agents along with other senior officials. He later addressed reporters and praised the fast response of security personnel. The White House Correspondents’ Association later confirmed the dinner would be postponed and rescheduled following the shooting.

The annual event is traditionally one of Washington’s most high-profile nights, bringing together presidents, lawmakers, journalists, celebrities, and media executives. Saturday’s attack transformed what was meant to be a celebratory evening into a scene of panic and confusion.

As investigators continue piecing together how the suspect got so close while carrying multiple weapons, serious questions are already being raised about hotel security, screening procedures, and how such a heavily attended political event was breached.
